Tofu steaks

Ingredients

  • block of tofu
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp water
  • ground black pepper
  • garlic
  • 12 cup (or more) breadcrumbs / panko
  • 2 tbps+ oil for frying

Instructions

  1. press tofu to get water out (~30 minutes+)
  2. cut tofu block into slabs of the desired thickness (I like about 12”)
  3. mine garlic
  4. combine all ingredients except tofu and breadcrumbs into a paste
  5. coat each slab of tofu in the tomato paste
  6. coat each slab of tofu in breadcrumbs
  7. heat oil on medium for frying
  8. fry each tofu slab, one side at a time, for several minutes / side

Try with ponzu sauce on top when eating!
